Profit first, family second
Today we completed (I think) our journey around the mini golf courses in Erie. We visited the “Family First” complex at the top of Peach Street. What’s the phrase? ’Save the best till last’? Well, not in this case. The mini golf course is tired, poorly maintained, boring and totally uninspiring.
The course has seen better days, though it will need a good memory to recall them. The ‘green’ material is well worn, torn in many places and this wear and tear has resulted in some holes having rims above the level of the playing surface. It doesn’t look as though any money has been spent on maintaining it. Water features are not working, removing the single concept of ‘interesting’ landscaping.
I could go on about many other failings of the course but won’t. Suffice to say even the kids eventually got bored with the ‘challenge’ and didn’t think it was fun. Our rankings for these courses, in topical Olympics style, is thus:
Gold medal - Lake Pleasant Mini Golf - 5,208 points
Silver medal - Harbor View Mini Golf - 4,621 points
Bronze medal - Castle Mini Golf - 3,844 points
DNF - Family First Mini Golf
(The scoring system used is a combination of those used at the Olympics gymnastics and the wrestling events. Go figure!)
On a general note the ‘Family First’ complex seems to have taken to heart the American love of concrete and that is sad because it could be so much nicer an environment with only a little trouble - but that would mean more maintenance and, as we can see from the mini golf, maintenance doesn’t appear to be on the agenda.
