My Chumby buddy

US flagFor Christmas hubby got me a Chumby.  If you don’t know what that is, you need to visit their website:  www.chumby.com.  They can tell you what it is technically, all I know is that it is pretty neat.

chumby090202I can check my email, the weather and the news headlines without getting out of bed in the morning.  You have to love that!  And it uses internet radio to wake me up to songs I actually like every morning.

I’m not really one for gadgets, that is more hubby’s area, but this is one little tech toy that I’m enjoying having.  And it is soft and squishy as well.  If it came in pretty colours or patterns it would be the perfect girly tech present!

I just paused live TV

US flagMy husband is a typical man in some ways.  Like in the way that he always wants the latest gadgets and gizmos that do the neatest new things.  And I suppose I’m fairly typical in that I usually am less impressed with whatever the new technology offers.

Of course, most of the time he turns out to be right…like switching to digital cameras.  And the latest thing he was right about was getting the built in hard drive cable box at our new house.  Now we can pause live television.  Which didn’t really excite me much until I was watching telly the other night and the older one came down with a question.  And I pushed “pause” had a chat with him and then pushed “play” and my programme started right back where it had stopped.

Okay, it hasn’t totallly changed my life or anything, but it is pretty cool and it makes life a bit easier.  Now when I get interrupted during a programme (which happens a lot when you have kids) I don’t have to miss anything.  Quite a neat little feature, really.

From trickle to power shower

UK flagWhat a wonderful thing plumbing technology is.  (Now, there’s a sentence I never thought I’d utter.  It ranks up there with “Don’t shoot the vegetables”….you don’t want to know how that one happened.)

A couple of the showers in the new home are, well, under powered.  Less a shower than a slightly humid experience.  So, for a few dollars, we bought a shower head designed to get the best out of low pressure plumbing.  As the water pressure is generally okay throughout the house, we figured it was the shower heads.  And it seems the market is full of special shower heads, costing up to hundreds of dollars.  But all we needed to get the best out of the shower was a head with a few less holes.  But there MUST be some wonderful technology inside some of those shower heads costing ridiculous sums of money.  Surely.  Why else would people be buying them?

[That last question is asked tongue-in-cheek.  You don't need technology to get a reasonable shower, just the right plumbing fittings.]

Anyway, showers sorted.  Next week I want to try and get my NY driving license, the car re-registered and the NYS inspection carried out.  I wonder if it can really go as smoothly as that in theory…
