I just paused live TV

US flagMy husband is a typical man in some ways.  Like in the way that he always wants the latest gadgets and gizmos that do the neatest new things.  And I suppose I’m fairly typical in that I usually am less impressed with whatever the new technology offers.

Of course, most of the time he turns out to be right…like switching to digital cameras.  And the latest thing he was right about was getting the built in hard drive cable box at our new house.  Now we can pause live television.  Which didn’t really excite me much until I was watching telly the other night and the older one came down with a question.  And I pushed “pause” had a chat with him and then pushed “play” and my programme started right back where it had stopped.

Okay, it hasn’t totallly changed my life or anything, but it is pretty cool and it makes life a bit easier.  Now when I get interrupted during a programme (which happens a lot when you have kids) I don’t have to miss anything.  Quite a neat little feature, really.

After the Superbowl is over…

UK flagHere’s a tip for all you sports fans who will be stuck for something to watch once the Superbowl is over…the Rugby Six Nations Championship starts on 7th February.  It only runs for a few weeks, but it will help keep you going until the next ‘football’ season.

Never watched rugby?  Give it a try.  The ball is the same shape and the action is much faster - imagine a football game without all the timeouts, team changes, etc.  You might have trouble finding it on the schedules, but so far I’ve figured that Setanta will be broadcasting all the games - three each weekend so you can pick and choose who to support.  Other broadcasters may be showing some matches, or highlights.

In the last Rugby World Cup the USA was represented, and though somewhat overwhelmed by the leading nations the US team put up a very creditable display.

So go on, try something different.  And if you do, let me know what you thought of it.

The rule of 3

UK flagA week or so ago when I drove home to Erie from Buffalo I passed three vehicles off the road, in the snow, awaiting tows.

Two days ago, making the same drive, I saw three vehicles in the same predicament.

Today I left Erie this morning, rather than late afternoon, due to the weather forecast.  Want to guess how many vehicles had strayed off the road and were well and truly stuck?

Is there a natural law at play here?

Anyway, safely tucked up at the apartment in Buffalo, watching the football.  See, I’m turning into a proper American!  :-)
