Strange days

January 2nd, 2009

UK flagOnce more the small volume of belongings we possess is being packed up into cardboard boxes.  For the last couple of days I’ve been moving bits and pieces into the new house.  There seems to be a balance to life.  I stayed behind on the Isle of Man for a while, emptying our old home.  house081124Now I’m slowly filling the new home and the rest of the family, having led the way to the US in the summer, will be along shortly.

The process of turning the new house into a home will be slow, but not too slow.  I’ve arranged for our personal effects to come out of storage and to be delivered to the new house.  No date yet, but I hope it won’t be long.

We move on 9th or 10th January - date to be confirmed by the movers.  So, a journey that began in March 2007 with a visa application is set to come to a close in January 2009.  The journey may be ending, but the life we have journeyed to is now, finally, just beginning.  Thanks for a good Summer, Erie.  Clarence and Buffalo, let’s find out what you have to offer!

It has to be better

UK flagHands up anyone who had a really great year in 2008?  Thought so.  I’m sure everyone had at least one great time during 2008 but in general, especially with the economic chaos, I don’t think 2008 will go down as a great year.

So, what does 2009 bring?  In general, I don’t know.  (And if anyone claims to know, run away very fast.)  Personally it will bring a new home, a new family life, a whole new future.  I am looking forward to 2009.  I am sure there’s more economic chaos to come, but by now we have all learned a few basic truths and should be more prepared for the challenges ahead.  I suspect 2009 won’t eventually go down as a great year, but with a bit of effort from us all it can be the year things turned around.

Happy New Year to everyone.  As we start 2009 by approaching the end of a transatlantic migration let us hope some of the good luck we have had in 2008 can now wander off and help someone else.  Maybe it will be you.

Out with the old…

UK flagAs at 1pm today we own a family home again.  While we will be a week or so moving into it, we will start the New Year at least owning our home.  2009 is already looking pretty good! :-)
